Bixi Comes to Toronto

We need 1000 members to bring the BIXI program to Toronto! Yesterday we did our part by hosting the mobile sign-up unit outside the store.

Those tempted by the BIXI service may choose between the $95/year membership or a $5 credit charge for each use, but the service is meant for trips of 30 minutes or less (which are included with the membership).

As for the bikes themselves, I don't see anyone tackling the Avenue hill as part of a daily routine, but these bikes will be great for a Sunday afternoon ride around Forest Hill or even for a quick errand across town. Can't wait for the first group ride with my friends on a BIXI!
Sign up here.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring. –Desmond Tutu

The History of Brooks Saddles

The age old question : "Why does it hurt my butt when i ride a bike?"

Answers could be:
  1. riding a bike thats too small or too big
  2. riding a bike thats not properly fitted to the you(saddle height, rake and lateral positioning)
  3. riding a saddle thats not suited to your riding position (too wide or thin)
But once those areas have been addressed, some still have that nagging question on their "mind"...as did I for many years. Finally, I have found a rebuttal to seat ache, saddle sores and bike bruising. It is a saddle that has been made by hand in England since 1882! And even weirder, its made out of LEATHER! Its name... The Brooks Saddle.

While slightly more expensive than a "normal" seats, after a couple hundred kms the saddle begins to mold to your sit bones! thats right - a custom molded seat, bespoke fitted by heat, gravity and a generous helping of Proofide. Till you ride one please excuse those who do, most will probably tell you that they could never go back to anything else. But don't take their word for it, check out the Viva Velo or the Rally One Way at the store.

The Verdict: Brooks Saddles live up to the hype.... personally, i don't see myself buying another seat, and after hearing stories of brooks lasting a life time - i probably wont have to. Check out their video and come into the store to see them in person.
